Pilates is an exercise program that focuses on stretching and strengthening the whole body to improve balance, strength, flexibility and posture. Named after its creator Joseph Pilates, it was created in the 1920’s for the purpose of rehabilitation.

Designed to strengthen and stretch the body, Pilates focuses on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core , and improving coordination and balance. With regular practice, one may also gain an increase in flexibility, muscle strength and tone, and better muscular control. Because Pilates can be adapted to provide either a gentle strength training program or a challenging workout, it is suitable both for people of all ages and levels of fitness.
