Barre fitness is a hybrid workout class – combining ballet inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance and yoga.

Barre is distinguished from other group fitness activities by its use of the ballet barre and use of classic dance moves such as pliés and static stretches. The class focuses on the lower body and core, developing strength and flexibility from the ankles up through the calves, knees, thighs, glutes and abdominals.

Barre workouts are also a good cross-training option to pair with other exercise like running, weight lifting or cycling, because they strengthen the muscles needed for these exercises without being too stressful on the body.
